Welcome to St Thomas' in the Groves! We are a small, but growing, church in the heart of the Groves area of York. We are committed to reaching out into our local community – serving people who are in need, and above all showing God’s love as best we can. We want to celebrate what God is doing in this wonderful part of His world.

We normally meet together each Sunday at 10.30am, and we hope that people find our gatherings welcoming, family-friendly, and full of God’s presence.

If you live in this part of York, you can be assured that we are praying that God will richly bless you and that you will know his love and goodness in your life.

St Thomas News - 11th January 2021

Dear Church,

It would be really helpful if you could take a minute to complete the new survey, asking what you might find useful during this lockdown period. We do want to be putting our time into what is going to be helpful and so hearing what you value would be great.  (Link available from )

This coming Sunday we will have an All Age Service online at 10.30am. There will be some 'church in a bag' things being delivered to families to help you engage - please do come onto the Zoom to make it a bit more interactive! As usual, the service will be on Zoom (ID 631 970 6882), Facebook and YouTube

The PCC (and I) have decided that, for the time being, we will pause the midweek communion services. We had further guidance from the diocese, and we feel that - at the moment - it is probably in the best interests of our local community (including the hospital itself) to fit in with the general request to 'stay at home' where possible. However, I am very aware of how highly valued this communion service is for some people, and I do hope we will hold services again quite soon. We'll keep our eyes on the general situation, and of course things will change for some of our own members as vaccinations take place.

I've made a new Verse of the Week video (thanks to Matt Neale for uploading all these!) on Romans 12.12, and on Sundays we'll be moving into a series looking at our security in God and how we can be secure in our faith.

I've also found Ralph Wilson's website helpful for some years - the other day I came across a video he made for those wanting to think about the basics of growing as a Christian, which I'd recommend watching if that's you (and if not I'd say his articles are generally worth a peruse - straightforward and helpful).

So, please do fill in the survey if you can, stay in touch, and may you know God's nearness and hope in this time.

Al
