Welcome to St Thomas' in the Groves! We are a small, but growing, church in the heart of the Groves area of York. We are committed to reaching out into our local community – serving people who are in need, and above all showing God’s love as best we can. We want to celebrate what God is doing in this wonderful part of His world.

We normally meet together each Sunday at 10.30am, and we hope that people find our gatherings welcoming, family-friendly, and full of God’s presence.

If you live in this part of York, you can be assured that we are praying that God will richly bless you and that you will know his love and goodness in your life.

St Thomas News - 28th January 2021

Dear Church,

I hope you are coping with this lockdown, and aware of God's gracious presence.

This Sunday - lots going on:
We have begun a series thinking about 'security' in our Sunday livestreams, and this week we continue with the first of a few talks on Psalm 62, a wonderful Psalm of refuge! We'll also be hearing from Chris and Suzy Wilson about their future plans, and from Claire Smith who has exciting news about the building.
This week, as we are not holding any communion services at the moment, I'll lead a short liturgy on the livestream with bread and wine - do have some bread and wine ready at home if you'd like to join in where you are.
We'll also be having some breakout groups after the service on Zoom so you can chat with others. Join the Zoom call if you'd like to join in (ID 631 970 6882) - and of course you can watch on Facebook or YouTube as usual.

New Video
Have a look at Sam's new video on Revelation - the letters from Jesus to the churches.

Responses to the Lockdown Survey
Thanks to all who replied to the survey (you can still do so!). Unfortunately it was impossible to tell who had written what, even when people added their names! Oops. So, please do get in touch by email/phone if you:
- would like to walk with someone, or to offer or receive letters/phone calls
- would like to get involved with organizing games nights/quizzes/social events on Zoom.

New Website making progress
We hope to launch a new website soon. If you have any good photos of things that have happened at church over the last couple of years, it would be great if you could send them to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Christian Union Events Week - please pray
Next week, the CU at York Uni are holding online events each evening for people to find out more about Jesus. Please pray for our students, and for Joe the UCCF worker, as they reach out to friends and fellow students.

Scout Group - new committee
The 2nd St Thomas' Scout Group are making plans for post-lockdown, and this includes setting up a new 'executive committee' - they are looking for people who would be willing to serve in this way. Here are some draft roles to have a look at - if you are interested, you can make contact via Facebook (2nd St Thomas York- Official) or email Tom Mann at This email address is being protected from spambots. Bible Reflection
Here is a helpful guide to reflecting on Psalm 42 from Marian. Do make use of this as one way of engaging with the Bible. Also, as Sam mentioned on Sunday, let us know if you would like advice on useful resources to help with personal Bible reading.

Lord's Prayer videos
A reminder of the idea to make a video of the Lord's Prayer featuring different people saying different parts. You can either take a video on your phone (saying the whole prayer, of part of it) and send it to Jo Greenman via Whatsapp (her number is 07947857299), or if you would struggle to do this but can do Zoom, you could contact Jo Greenman to arrange a short Zoom call which she could then record to use.

God bless,

Al
