St Thomas News 18th May 2021
In an attempt to make things easier, we're going to trial an online booking system for the Sunday services while we're in this current situation - so, if you'd like to come this week, please click here and book in (there's an option for family tickets too). Just to say:
- we have left space for those who don't have internet access and will want to come, so you don't need to book on behalf of those people
- we have left a small number of extra spaces for those who might turn up on the day
But if you're reading this and thinking of coming, please try to book in. If you have problems, let me know. Of course this is not ideal, but we do need to do our best to keep to the social distancing limits for the time being, and as more people are feeling ready to come back to church, we do need some sort of system in place for now.
And don't forget you can now think about getting together to watch with others (even indoors)! It's Pentecost, so great reason to celebrate!
As usual the service is live-streamed - on Facebook or YouTube or on the Zoom call (631 970 6882) at 10.30am.
Also happening this Sunday evening - our Annual Meeting. This is going to be at 6pm both on Zoom (631 970 6882) and in the church building. Given that we had our last AGM only in November, we don't envisage this being a long one, but do join us online or in person if you can. Please find attached our Annual Report - this has a report on 2020 from myself, the churchwardens, the treasurer, as well as some additional reports. Please do have a read, and feel free to raise questions on Sunday: there are also some hard copies which will be delivered to those without access to email.
Very soon on our Facebook and YouTube pages there will appear a new video from Claire Smith, updating us on the consultation that's taken place with the congregation about the future development of our building. Keep an eye out and have a watch!
First of all, Sean and Catherine are getting married at St Thomas' on Thursday - so please do pray for them and their little boy Arthur.
Secondly, none other than Tom Dennis has just got engaged to Hannah (as he said, 'miraculously' she said yes), and would like me to tell you to save him having to do so! But I'm sure we will want to offer congratulations and will announce on Sunday too.
Midweek Activities - This week we have a final Wednesday communion service at 1pm, followed by tea/coffee at tables - perhaps this week inside the building! From the following week, a couple of new things:
Tuesdays at 12.30pm, starting 25th May - for a few weeks we'll be having a simple service with teaching through the book of Colossians. A reading, a talk and a prayer. This will be streamed live and will go onto YouTube/Facebook.
Thursdays at 12.30pm, starting 27th May - this will be the new time for the communion service, and this will be followed by tea/coffee at tables either outside or inside the church building. Anyone is welcome to come to either or both communion and the cafe.
Family Worship - While we're trying to think through the best ways of getting children's groups up and running again, we are really aiming for September for this to be happening fully. We do hope to have various events, including two more family services on Sundays at 4pm - the first on June 20th (St Thomas') and the second on July 11th (this one may be at St Wulstan's).
Christian Aid - last week was Christian Aid week. If you would like to give via the envelopes that were in church, bring yours back this Sunday and put it on the plate at the back of church.
Sorry that was a long one. God bless,
Rev. Alistair Rycroft
