St Thomas News - 22nd Feb 2019

Dear All,

There are a couple of things not happening this week - no 'Life With God' session on Sunday eve, no early morning prayer on Tuesday, no Babes and Tots on Friday. Everything else is happening as usual, and Pete Platts will be speaking to us about the poor widow's offering (Luke 21.1-4) on Sunday morning.

During this series thinking about God's generosity and our response, I have attached a brief 'practical guide to giving' which I hope you'll find helpful.

Lent begins on March 6th, and we will have an Ash Wednesday service that evening at 7pm in church.

Joe Firth is organizing a Fairtrade stall in church after the service on March 10th - let him know if there's anything you'd like to buy so he can get stocked up.

Life with God

On Sunday 27th at 6pm we are starting our Life With God series. There will be some talks from Al Rycroft and time for discussion, as we think about how it might be possible to live a 'Psalm 23' life, knowing God's provision, peace and goodness as a daily reality.

Archbishop calls for Vigil of Prayer ahead of Brexit vote

Diocese of York
Friday 7th December 2018

The Archbishop of York is inviting all to join him in a vigil of prayer ahead of the Commons vote on the Brexit deal. The vigil will start on Sunday 9 December at 6am until Tuesday 11 December at midnight.

The Archbishop, after much prayerful consideration, has written a prayer which he is encouraging everyone to pray on the hour, every hour throughout the three days. York Minster is open as a place of prayer. All are invited to attend. This prayer will be readily available to use and will be said by the duty Chaplain at York Minster throughout Monday and Tuesday.

The Archbishop said: “At this time of uncertainty I have been asked by many people to call for prayer. Please may I encourage you to join me in this Prayer Vigil as we work for peace and unity at this time.”

The Archbishop’s prayer reads:
