St Thomas News - 26th June 2020
Liverpool have won the league for the first time since I was an opinionated, eccentric ten year old who took every opportunity to show off in front of crowds of people. How much has really changed..? Anyway, some news:
Sunday: We'll be worshipping together again online on Sunday at 10.30am. I'm going to keep the songs as an exciting surprise because we think we will be able to put the words on your screens this week! (All except the action song which is I Give Thanks). You can join us on Facebook and YouTube. There will also be prayer ministry offered after the service on the church Zoom (ID 631 970 6882). Just to say, also, if you would like to speak to me in response to anything I say in my sermons (perhaps particularly emotive issues such as anger or forgiveness, which I'll be speaking about this week), do feel free to get in touch any time.
We're also going to try having our Taste and See worship and prayer time on Sunday (rather than today) at 7pm - join us on Facebook.
A reminder that the church is open for private prayer on Mon, Tue, Thu and Fri from 3-4pm. That may continue just for next week, as we are considering the best options for July 4th onwards. As you may have heard, churches are permitted to hold services after that date, but we are awaiting further guidelines - it may well be that numbers permitted would be quite small, that singing is not allowed, and that communion remains suspended. Social distancing will certainly apply. Given this, our options will be quite limited. I'd very much encourage you to pray for wisdom as we want to hear God's leading as to the best decisions as we think about what 'being church' will look like in the coming weeks and months.
I'm also unsure of how and whether we'll continue with daily prayers (lunchtime or night prayer) and so will say more on Sunday!
We have another St Thomas' Lockdown Quiz on Tuesday at 7.30pm. If you are not in a team and would like to take part, please contact Maya (see below).
And finally a link to a song we listened to at the prayer meeting on Tuesday, which some people encouraged me to share in the email. It expresses the kind of diversity and welcome we want to be evident at St Thomas' as we receive God's lavish grace. Vagabonds, by Stuart Townend (and this one doesn't sound like In Christ Alone).
