St Thomas News - 10th July 2020
We are working on developing new things and a new rhythm as the guidelines change. Hopefully this little summary will help:
Sunday Livestreams will continue as the main 'service' for some time to come. It seems many people are engaging with these and so we want to retain this focus for the life of our community.
This Sunday, join again on Facebook or Youtube at 10.30am. The wonderful Louise Barclay will be sharing with us about unity. And a new option - those who've been on the Zoom calls (leading prayers, etc) have fed back that this gives more of a sense of being 'involved' in the service. So, if you would like to be on the call (you would not appear or be heard on what is broadcast, but you would be able to see some other people) please join the Zoom meeting between 10.20 and 10.25am (ID 631 970 6882). Give it a go!
Worship in the church building - the plan is to begin holding a short, reflective communion service (only with bread) on Sundays from July 19th. If you would be likely to want to attend, it would be really helpful to know, and to know whether you would prefer an afternoon or evening time. Please email/call me.
Other church opening - we won't be opening the church for private prayer this week, but hope to have a new schedule from next week. It may be open on fewer days but perhaps incorporating some led prayers.
Other resources - it may be that shared resources like the daily Bible readings, the prayer diary, and teaching videos can be helpful in fostering unity while we remain apart. I'll be sharing more on this in the days to come.
The emphasis, more than ever, will need to be on our personal commitment to one another - creative, Spirit-led ways in which we can encourage each other and meet together one to one and in home groups or other small groups. Your community needs you!
We have received a request for help from Refugee Action York - new refugees have arrived in York and are in need of supplies, especially of men's clothes. The details and how you can donate or help can be found here.
And this week's Verse(s) of the Week - Colossians 1.12-14, to fit in with the daily Bible readings for next week. A video will soon appear on Facebook and YouTube:
"The Father has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."
