St Thomas News 20th February 2021
Dear Church Family,
To begin with some sad news - Laurie Pennock (Dave's dad) died in his sleep on Wednesday night, after long struggles with illness and old age. We pray that Lawrie is finding great joy and release in the presence of his saviour, and we pray for all the family as they grieve his loss.
This Sunday we'll begin to tie our talks in with the themes of the Live Lent readings - we'll be thinking about the Great Banquet in Luke 14 in the livestream service. Please join on Zoom (631 970 6882), Facebook or YouTube
If you haven't already done so, join in with Live Lent: you can sign up for emails or download an app. For a physical booklet, please let me know.
Communion Services: following some advice from a nurse at the hospital, and with infections decreasing and many having been (partially) vaccinated, we have decided to hold an communion service in the building this coming Thursday (25th)at 12pm. We will be taking all the advised precautions to make these services safe. One precaution is to limit the numbers in attendance - therefore, please inform me in advance if you would like to come to the service.
It may be that, after the PM's announcement next week, we'll have some more clarity about other possibilities in future weeks/months.
Thursday: Difference Course - Jo Bloss and Ruth Dunlop are running a new course called 'Difference'. This is a Christian course looking at how we can live with and get along with others who think differently from us. This is a very interactive course, not heavy going - we hope many people across the church will do the course over time, so please do consider joining - there are spaces left. The course outline is here. It's five sessions on Thursdays at 7pm on Zoom (starting Feb 25th). To find out more or register your interest, contact Ruth or Jo.
A reminder of the intro video from Claire about the building project. Do take a look!
Claire will also be leading a Building Project Open Meeting - for anyone who hasn't been able to get to a meeting like this with their small group, this is a chance to share your thoughts about the building project, Monday 1st March, 5.15-6.30pm. It will be on the usual Zoom ID 631 970 6882.
Tomorrow: Bible Reflection over Zoom led by Marian and Phil. These will be along the lines of reading a passage slowly together, taking time quietly alone to reflect, and then an opportunity to share at the end. The first one will be on Sunday at 7pm on the usual church Zoom: 631 970 6882.
Children's Bike Needed: We've had a request for a bike for a boy aged 11, and for two bike helmets (one for the 11 y-o, one full size). Please contact me or Sam Nunes if you would be able to help.
